Hey SistahGurls,
I enjoyed speaking with and talking to a Maternal Mental Health advocate who gave me laughs and educated us on motherhood and mental health.
She is passionate about her work with education and creating building blocks for the community. Topics such as:
Depression and medication while pregnant.
Taking a village to support the mother and her children.
Cultural differences in how the United States values and treats mothers when it comes to laws and care.
Graeme also shared her personal stories about motherhood and birthing her two children.
Quick Reminders
Self-care starts with “self,” it’s never about what it looks like to others. It also challenges you to self-assess and verify your needs in the moment. Once you obtain that clarity, you can receive the help and resources to honor your self-care.
Learn how to delegate. You don’t have to prove yourself or to others that you are a good mom. Ask for help and assistance, and lean into getting help from mom, dad, aunties, and cousins.
If you’re asked anything, never say yes immediately; ask, “when do you need to have an answer by?” It allows you to see if you have time or have the energy. This tip isn’t only for mothers, and it's a tool we can all use to ensure we don’t stretch ourselves too thin.
The navigation bar at the top of the newsletter shows a directory of resources and organizations (still a work in progress).
